Little things bring joy.

Have you ever come across someone smiling suddenly, and feeling happy at little things?

I have always enjoyed looking for little things that bring joy. Even while growing up I would make sure to add these little things that made me happy in my diary and would always keep adding more. I would mostly come across these little things while taking the bus to reach the school/college, while shopping for groceries, or while travelling.

Here are a few:

Buying fresh green leafy vegetables:  In India ladies go grocery shopping to buy fresh green leafy vegetables every evening-buying a fresh bunch of green leafy vegetables would often make them feel happy. On their way home, they would start discussing about the next day’s menu-share recipes with their friends and would often talk about it the day after they had enjoyed serving it to their family members and eating. I would always admire watching them buy these fresh green leafy vegetables and would wonder why some little things bring joy.

A mother watching her daughter enjoy ice-cream: Everyone loves eating ice-cream but have you ever come across, a someone who would enjoy watching her child eat ice-cream-I have, we had a family staying in our complex, the mother loved to see her daughter smile and would take her to the nearby ice-cream shop during summer break and would ask her to choose a flavor-the mom would just keep watching her daughter smile and enjoy the ice-cream, this reminded her about her childhood days and the time spent with her own mom. Little things bring joy!

Enjoying desserts:  Have you ever been to an Indian wedding? In India we often get invited to attend a few Indian weddings, most times they serve a variety of Indian desserts-after dinner. Guests enjoy trying out these different varieties of Indian desserts freshly made jallebies, rabri, phirni, kulfi, laddoos, or gajar ka halwa-eating these yummy desserts would often make the guests smile.

Child getting a new pet: While growing up my cousin always talked about how happy she would feel if she would have a pet, to play with-one day after she returned from school she was surprised to see a puppy in her room. Her parents had given her a beautiful gift she would never forget all her life, she was the happiest person on earth.

Planting roses: I enjoyed gardening with my father from childhood. I would spend sometime with him on Sunday mornings taking care of the plants in the balcony; thats when I got interested and started planting a couple of rose plants at the age of fifteen with his help. I would spend hours taking care of these plants and was thrilled to see a bud growing one day. I had to wait for days to see it bloom into a nice pink rose; I felt very happy and proud and called all my friends over to see the pink rose. Wonder why little tings bring joy?

Getting an unexpected day off from school: Sometimes we would get an unexpected day off from school which used to be so much fun, we would get to sleep more, we would enjoy taking a nap in the afternoon, or get some time to finish reading a favorite book. We would often end up playing a game of bingo with our friends and having ice cream together, an unexpected day off from school would always make us happy.

Sometimes we find happiness in little things!
