Why doing few simple things for others leaves us feeling contented?

Most times we are busy with our day to day activities and rarely are left with anytime to show we care and be thankful but doing few simple things selflessly for others or in need or taking sometime while attending to our daily routine often leaves us feeling happy from the inside. There are lots of ways we can be helpful to others and show we care.

Simple acts of kindness make a difference: While travelling to work or school we often meet some elders in the bus, offering a seat to an elderly person is a good way of being helpful. Sometimes while waiting in a long queue for paying the grocery bill allowing an elderly person who is standing in a long line, to pay the bill is a good way to help elders.

Nature care: Being mindful and keeping the surroundings clean supporting good community living. Taking some time and doing a few simple acts like feeding the birds, taking care of the environment, throwing the garbage in the garbage can, keeping the roads and parks clean, keeping the hallways free from unwanted trash helps us keep the surroundings clean and is another good way to show we care.

Sharing some old unwanted things: Sometimes we have a lot of things, which we do not use, donating these things to the needy or to people in need, is another way which keeps us contented. Simple ways like donating old newspapers instead of throwing shows we care.

Saying a couple good words and making people feel good: Saying a few good encouraging words just leaving a thank you note especially after having visited a friend for a party, or after receiving a good email, makes people feel good and helps strengthen relationships.

Offering some help: Helping a mother with a baby, trying to shop at the grocery store, with the stroller or with the grocery bag, helping her put the grocery bags in the car. Taking a few minutes and helping someone keeps us happy and helps us feel good.

Helping an elderly neighbor: Helping an elderly neighbor, carry his/her bag of groceries or reading them the newspaper on Sunday mornings or offering some help by getting a few groceries, or purchasing some vegetables for them while we go grocery shopping. Some times just picking the phone and making a phone call to say hello makes people happy and helps us feel good as well.

Taking care of the environment:  Taking some time and caring for the future generation. Donating old newspapers, plastic bottles, saving electricity whenever possible, saving water whenever possible and reusing things if possible. Throwing the garbage in garbage cans, not on the road while travelling. Using jute bags instead of plastic bags while grocery shopping are some simple things we can do and show we care.

Donating some time whenever possible: Visiting an orphanage and helping a child learn how to read or simply reading them a good story. Watching them smile is a good way that keeps us contented.

Donating once a year: Donating old clothes shoes or toys once a year, helping people in need is another good way to show we care.

We all have our own special ways to show we care especially in our own special ways.

  1. I envy you. Believe me, I was about to write something on similar lines, though more realistic and extensive.
At times, I feel that there is a need to make a difference and at-least try to get your message out to people because as I am and the youth is, today's generation is more concerned about having an eco-friendly environment, being socially involved, helping the poor, in short trying to be a better human being. Do you think similarly?
